捷克陨石的形成约在一千五百万年前，当时有一颗巨大的陨石撞击到地球表面，由于大爆炸产生了高温与高压，而将这颗陨石与周围的石头融合成如浪花般的玻璃状物质，而在1787年在捷克摩达维河Moldavite发现，所以英文就以Moldavite命名，中文为捷克陨石。捷克陨石，又名莫尔道陨石、莫尔达维陨石、莫达维石。
