Originally from Taipei, TSUI Yung-Yen graduated from the M.F.A Program Department of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts. Her works primarily consist of sculpture, painting, and illustrations. TSUI’s sculptures and paintings have been featured at many sculpture and painting exhibitions. Furthermore, she consistently receives invitations to participate in public art projects. Her illustrations have been showcased and awarded in Japan, Italy, and other places around the world. Her series of works, “Little Red Riding Hood”, draws on familiar fairy tales to discuss how women shape their self-image as they grow up, and begin to explore the boundaries between revealing their bodies and being viewed. The sculpture series, “Circus”, transforms painters of traditional Chinese paintings across various dynasties into circus characters in a world of fantasy. Each of them features interdependent capabilities. Beneath their cute and round appearances, they echo a longing and desire to escape from reality, as well as a sense of care for the world. Her works have been collected by the Ministry of Culture’s 2013 “Art Bank” and the “National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts Young Artists Archive Project”.
