宣德铜香炉的造型古朴庄重，做工精致，亦是继商周青铜器之后我国铸造工艺中的极端。宣德炉采用当时先进的失蜡法铸成，经过打磨后找不出拼模和铸口的痕迹。炉分炉耳、炉身、炉足三部分。炉耳有：象耳、狮耳、环耳、，都成对置于炉身的两侧。有的炉不饰耳，而炉身素光不作纹饰，使之尽现宣德炉美丽古朴的铜色和庄重的造型。也有少量的宣德炉在外部敲上些小块金箔，谓之生金，熠熠生辉，金块大小相间，小者呈星点状，大者如片状，如金色的“雨雪”交加，富丽豪华。炉足有圈足、圆乳形三足、方圆形四足等，形式多样，因炉身而异。炉壁厚重，手感有一种沉甸甸的感觉。

“宣”字款象耳炉。此件香炉圆口微外撇，束颈垂腹，腹部与颈部之间接对称的象耳，下承圈足，足心有款“宣”字，系铸后修磨而成，字体工整，章法严谨，当为上品。其皮色老辣，流光烁彩。其铜材经过精炼，持之坠手，叩之悦耳，余音悠长，甚是沁心，实为清代之妙器也。尺寸：高8厘米，口径9厘米，底径8厘米，重800克。
