在中国货币的历史的长河中，却见证了历史变迁的过程，中国最早的中西文化融合的铜币出现在清朝，清朝是我国最后一个封建王朝，其后期的衰落可谓造成了中国历史上最为混乱的时期，清政府的无能显而易见，然穷则思变，洋务运动无疑是清朝统治者做出积极进取的重要举措，而基于洋务运动的影响，铸币业也发生了改变。绪元宝是清朝光绪年间流通的货币之一。由两广总督张之洞率先引进英国铸币机器铸造银元和铜元，之后各省纷纷仿效。共有十九个省局铸造，除中央户部，地方省所铸铜元，皆在其正面上缘镌写省名。

清江光绪元宝铸造时间为1904年～1906年，铸造时间较短，江苏省清江浦造，名为（清江铜元局）。当时铸造钱币材料有“红铜”、“黄铜”两种，清未铜元只冠地名而无省名，唯清江铜元。后清江铜元局併入江南造币厂，清江光绪元宝未经大量流通，现在存世量少，收藏价值高。

此枚钱币正面珠圈内书汉文"光绪元宝"四字，珠圈外上环为满文"光绪元宝"四字，左右为“清江”二字，下环为“当製钱十文”五字；钱币背面中心为蟠龙图案及英文，所绘龙纹形象生动，龙纹深邃，龙鳞清晰，包浆入骨，熟旧自然，深打字口清楚，流通痕迹明显，龙鳞清晰，钱文清秀，工艺精美，饱经无穷岁月的洗礼，此币仍保存极为完好，极具收藏投资价值和艺术欣赏价值.

有些人知道，清江省造的光绪元宝稀有，但是为什麽这样，是不明白的！只是人云亦云！

其实，很多人不瞭解历史的，不知道清江省造光绪元宝十分罕见的原因，是因为从铸造钱币的清江造，它的一个铸造时间才有短短一年多，不象其它省造的那样，所以製造量少，加上它的一个存世量也是随著时间的流逝而逐渐的减少，从而造成了稀有！如今在拍卖场上都难的见到它的身影！
