西元1131年，南宋高宗绍兴元年，铸绍兴元宝和绍兴通宝。婺州屯兵，西路不通，乃造关子付婺州。南宋建都杭州，偏安一隅，因铜源缺乏，铸钱规模及数量远不及北宋。 宋高宗，1127—1162年在位时有建炎、绍兴二种年号钱，建炎分元宝、重宝、通宝，而绍兴未铸重宝。

绍兴元宝，南宋绍兴年间，正值宋金战乱，铸币不多，尤其小平钱(最小币值的钱称为小平钱)铸行的更少，绍兴小平钱出土极为罕见，《古钱大辞典》载：“南宋高宗绍兴元年辛亥八月铸绍兴元宝小平钱，闻中国亦绝少见，故反向日本收集。”

此枚钱币绍兴元宝，包浆自然，品像完好，钱面为楷书绍兴元宝旋读，背有星月纹为佳品型极罕见，文字纹饰峻俏挺拔， 钱缘倾斜坦拔， 穿口精修。形稍厚， 深坑入骨鏽， 色泽斑斓。

绍兴元宝是南宋高宗赵构绍兴年间（1131～1162年）铸有“绍兴元、通宝”两种钱币，且有铜、铁质之分。在铜质行用钱中，“绍兴元宝”有小平、折二、折三，其钱文旋读，书体篆、真成对，製作颇为精整。“绍兴通宝”亦分小平、折二、折三，钱文直读，书体则皆为真书。另外，谱录中又有“绍兴通宝”瘦金体旋读折五、折十型试样大钱存世。绍兴元宝官铸小平铜钱较稀见，目前市场，折二常见，另有铁钱，不多见。
