A 国际艺术家驻留作品展-移动利维坦

展览介绍

 

以各式APP作为化身 ,移动互联网通过生活工具、社交软件、游戏和娱乐垄断了人们的生活。通过手机这类终端提取与人相关的属性:如位置、移动速度、轨迹、时间、温度心跳等各种体征传感,通过将基础信息链接到各式应用,从而加速了现实世界和赛博空间的趋同。移动终端已成为加装在现世肉身上的强殖装甲,渗透嵌入意识系统,实现人和互联网社会的无限连接。人们把肉身留在现实,把生活记忆与情感尽数移植进比特海洋里,最终,所有的一切共同构筑了这个隐形的移动利维坦。

 

原身作为圣经海怪,在当下中国,利维坦改名叫荒古神兽巨鲲,游弋在各色流量广告中相互吞噬。霍布斯之后巨鲲利维坦隐喻着让人类有归属感的庞然大物——国际政府,它由人组成,也由人来运作,因此也就具有了人性的多面品质,它在保护人的同时,又拥有了管理权限。当人们将自身信息转交给移动媒介并签订了信息使用契约之后,移动利维坦即开始生效。与现实世界的国家不同,在这个虚拟的人造信息意志中,它没有明确的权利与形式,它没有坐标和规则。那么,它究竟或者可以是什么,它会如何与人们相处,它将如何成为我们的生活?

 

本次展览拓展三个层级的探讨:首先是移动互联网对生活的改变、其次是互联网权利如何对用户形成新的秩序,最后是政府系统通过互联网进行的社会管理。本次展览艺术家Adam Farcus、Eric Scott Nelson和毛蔚,分别从国际政治、意识形态和个体生命三个切面回应了这次展览主题。

The internet dominates people’s lives in its manifestation via various apps such as social life tools, social media, games and entertainment. Human-related attributes such as location, moving speed, routes, time, temperature, heartbeat, etc., are read by user terminals like mobile phone which link basic human information to various applications, accelerating the sameness and integration of real world and cyberspace. The mobile terminals have equipped human beings with strong virtual armors, that penetrate into the people’s consciousness, realizing the infinite connection between human beings and the internet society. People retain their flesh in the reality and transfer memories and emotions of their lives into the ocean of binary digits, all of which constructs a invisible dynamic Leviathan. 

 

Originally a biblical sea monster, Leviathan split and metamorphosized to ancient Chinese divine animals named Giant Kun in present China, which wander in various stream advertisements, devouring each other. After Hobbes, the giant Kun-Leviathan metaphorically symbolizes the behemoth that gives humanity a sense of belonging--the government of the international society. It’s consisted of and operated by people. It, therefore, possesses the multi-face nature of human beings. It protects and manages people at the same time. When people transfer their information to the mobile media and sign the information contract, the dynamic Leviathan soon takes effect. Unlike the governing organs in the real world, this will of virtual artificial information has no definite rights and forms. It has no coordinates and rules. What exactly can it be then? How does it get along with people and how will it become our life?

 

The exhibition dwells upon three levels of discussion. Firstly, it deals with how mobile internet changed our life. Secondly, it discusses how internet formed a new order among users and it eventually discusses how government utilized internet for its current social management. The artists Adam Farcus, Eric Scott Nelson and Mao Wei responded to the theme of this exhibition from three aspects respectively: international politics, ideology and individual life.

Adam Farcus (US)

Adam Farcus 是美国伊利诺斯州人,ta在伊利诺斯大学芝家哥校区获艺术硕士学位,现任萨姆休斯顿州立大学的艺术系教授。Adam Farcus 是一位激进主义者、艺术家、策展人、女权主义者,ta活跃在德克萨斯州的艺术社区,2012年到2015年,担任Lease Agreement(德克萨斯州亨茨维尔的流动性策展项目)的联合策展人。Adam Farcus 擅长直接通过线索或迹象而不是表现方式来创作,所以ta经常以合理占用为基础创作的作品来表达ta的观念,作品曾在休斯顿费城、美国大学博物馆、A + D 画廊等展出。

Adam Farcus was born and raised in the rural town of Coal City, Illinois,they received their M.F.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Now, they are a professor of art at Sam Houston State University. Adam Farcus is a Huntsville, Texas, based activist, artist, curator and feminist. From 2012 through 2015 they were a co-curator at Lease Agreement.(Lease Agreement now exists as a alternative and nomadic curatorial project, based in Huntsville, Texas.)Because of the desire to work directly with signs and not representations, Adam often executes their concepts in appropriation-based artworks. Their work has been exhibited at numerous venues, including Houston,Philadelphia,the American University Museum and A+D Gallery.


 

Eric Scott Nelson(US)

 

Eric Scott Nelson 出生在美国亚利桑那州,毕业于美国亚利桑那州立大学跨学科艺术与行为艺术专业。自2011年起,Eric Scott Nelson 从近100件作品中提炼了自己行为艺术的研究方法,将创造时的轨迹用作与身体进行交流的工具并在创作过程中不断的探索各种媒介。他的大部分行为艺术都是因地制宜的抽象重复行为,并于近期回归到对附加媒介的使用以建立语境。Eric Scott Nelson 的作品由他人体验并完成,基于他人复杂的背景、理解与阐释,探索当代社会荒谬规则中所限制的人文环境。

 

2006年至2017年间Eric Scott Nelson 曾驻留于多个国家艺术馆及博物馆工作(坦桑尼亚、阿根廷、泰国、波兰、哥伦比亚、韩国、中国等)。

 

Eric Scott Nelson grew up in Arizona, graduated from Arizona State University, USA, majoring in Interdisciplinary Art and Performance. Since 2011, Eric Scott Nelson has refined his approach to behavioral art from nearly 100 works, using the trajectory of creation as a tool to communicate with the body and explore various media continuously in the process of creation. Most of his works of art are abstract repetitive behaviors in accordance with local conditions, and have recently returned to the use of additional media to establish context. Eric Scott Nelson's works are experienced and completed by others,based on the complex background, understanding and interpretation of others, he explores the humanistic environment restricted by the absurd rules of contemporary society. 

 

From 2006 to 2017, Eric Scott Nelson worked in several national galleries and museums (Tanzania, Argentina, Thailand, Poland, Colombia, Korea, China, etc.).

 

毛蔚 Mao Wei(CN)

毛蔚生活并工作于上海、芝加哥。在取得新闻学士学位后,毛蔚进入芝加哥艺术学院专攻纯艺摄影,现为杜克大学纯艺硕士候选人。毛蔚的作品延续自她在新闻传播学上的背景,探索和创造对真实世界进行协调和表现的领域,并通过摄影、雕塑、装置等艺术形式探讨媒介在制作和引导上的功能。这些作品反映了她对大众媒体、虚拟现实、幻想以及不确定性的理解。她曾获得David and Elizabeth Roderick 学术基金的赞助,并在美国、中国、日本等国家展出作品。

 

Mao Wei is a MFA candidate in Duke University and is currently based in Shanghai and Chicago. 

 

After receiving her BA in Journalism, she attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, focusing on photography.  Following her academic background in journalism and communication, Mao’s artwork creates realms that explore mediation and representation in the real world, and critiques the functions of various media production approaches through photography, sculpture, lighting installation and mixed media. These works reflect on mass media, virtual reality, fantasy, and uncertainty. Mao Wei was the recipient of David and Elizabeth Roderick Scholarship, and her works have exhibited internationally including the US, China and Japan.

 

 

2018年,前行美术馆联合58小镇共同发起 A+国际艺术家驻留项目,试图以艺术与新经济的联动,在当下的大数据时代趋势里以艺术的方式回应并探索当代艺术的发展方向,追问艺术本体与形态边界,探索并分享符合时代精神的艺术实践。

 

驻留期间,参加者将有机会参与城市走访、工作室开放展示、学术讨论、沙龙讲座或相关教育交流活动,以及最终的展览展示部分。为参与者带来多元、深度的创作空间与可能性。
