中国这个文明古国，经历了太多的繁华，也经历了极致的衰弱，然最让我们难忘的要数晚清的百年，在这一时期，战乱纷起，民众朝不保夕，统治者虽力图改变，但仍收效甚微，而这一时期的钱币业也历经洗礼，一些融合了当时社会风气的精美的古钱币许多都已埋没在历史的尘埃中。

光绪元宝，清代货币、纸钞、铜币并行，至嘉庆年间发行新式银元，而光绪年间铸行金、银币更多。洋务运动也影响到铸币业，两广总督张之洞曾于光绪十三年（1887年）委托使英大臣在英国订购全套造币机器，并在广东钱局首铸机制银元和铜元。

此枚光绪元宝“广东省造”银币。广东省造光绪元宝库平七钱二分银币正面中珠圈内镌满汉文“光绪元宝”四字，圈外上端镌“广东省造”，下端镌币重“库平七钱二分”，左右两侧分镌小花。银币背面中央镌珍珠龙纹样，上端为英文“广东省”，下端镌英文币重“库平七钱二分”，左右两侧分别镌长花星。
