袁大头是民国时期首要流转货币之一，“袁大头”是对袁世凯像系列硬币的白话俗称，作为民国军阀银币的领头羊，“大头”系列对钱币收藏爱好者来说，并不陌生。“袁大头”银元的诞生，也是银元发展的必然结果。在辛亥革命后，袁世凯为了解决军费和提高个人政治地位而发行的银元货币，因这些银元铸有他的侧身图像而得名。

此枚钱币正面铸以袁世凯侧面戎装像，上环“中华民国三年造”六字。钱币背面纪以币值，为“壹圓”二字，左右为稻穗组成的嘉禾纹图案。之所以称它为签字版，是因为这枚币在袁世凯像右侧，刻有一行英文字母“L.GIoRGI”，是“鲁尔治-乔治”签名缩写。由意大利籍雕刻师乔治（L.Giorgi）设计制模，乔治设计前并未见过袁世凯本人，是以袁氏半身向左的照片为样本进行雕刻，称为“七分脸”，完成后赴京晋见，发现与袁世凯本人差异甚大而未受青睐。其色泽光鲜自然，纹饰深浅适度，边缘线条粗细均匀，间距也疏密一致，人像、发丝、胡须、穗芒等细微之处清晰有度，工艺精湛，构思巧妙，蕴意深刻，铸造精美，雕工极好，浮雕感很强，岁月的痕迹更为其增添了几分沉静和古朴的质感。它带有那一时期鲜明的时代印记，见证了那一段波澜壮阔的革命历史，历史韵味浓郁，收藏意义非同凡响。加之这种币值的钱币与当时期发行的其他钱币而言，数量相对来说比较稀少，故而，这件藏品有着极佳的收藏价值，是一枚值得珍藏的古钱币精品。
