“I want to touch people with my art. I want them to say 'he feels deeply, he feels tenderly'.”

― Vincent van Gogh

Greenland Group defines “luxury decoration” in a new way concerning both aspects of materials and spirituality: four of its projects, Yuhui, Huangpu, Fenghua, Sheshan, are working in collaboration with Shanghai Je Fine Art Gallery, bring out a complete harmony of artistic spirit and living space.

If there is a list of artists, of all time, whose works make people ‘feel’ the most, Vincent van Gogh will definitely makes top three. After more than a hundred years, we are used to put grand labels such as “the representative figure of Post-Impressionism”, “the pioneer of Expressionism”, etc.; however, the timeless charm of van Gogh’s art derives exactly from the purity of his passion and the desire to capture natural spirit, not fame or wealth.

Teh-Chun Chu and Walasse Ting are two internationally celebrated ethnic Chinese artist whose works were exhibited along side big names such as Picasso, Milo, etc. Around 1950s, they went to Paris, at that time the center of arts in the world, with a rebellious heart, searching for the freedom embodied in western arts. In foreign lands far away from home, they turned out to discover the infinite possibilities of Chinese ink painting and the charm of eastern wisdom.

From Teh-Chun Chu’s perspective, the notion of ‘abstraction’ that western contemporary artists are passionate about is actually the essence of traditional Chinese ink painting. Fan Kuan, a painter of Song dynasty, expressed the idea that the portrayal of spirit is over the portrayal of reality in traditional Chinese ink painting, and he said:” Learning from the universe rather than other people. looking into oneself rather than looking outside.”  Teh-Chun Chu’s works shift from darkness to lightness with fluid lines and therefore creates an overall harmony from a chaotic and abstract vision.

Walasse Ting referred himself as a ‘butterfly’ or ‘flower thief’ and the things and people he loved most in life inspire much of his work. His work is therefore really uplifting and enjoyable to look at as someone who led a very happy and full life, who loved and laughed a lot, paints it. Ting loved everything luxurious and beautiful he women, flowers and animals. This daring use of neon colors also gives his work a particular charm that is distinctive to him and him alone.

Artists more often than not give a sense of untouchableness, such as Andy Warhol: the silver wig is his timeless signature, obscuring the notions of age and gender; his pales, expressionless face adds to the vibe of mystery. However, the spirit of Andy Warhol is much more secular than many other artists: to make money. In a flourish age of commerce and media, Andy makes art like a businessman and markets himself like a media person. “Business is the best art.” He said. He invented a system of making arts based on the mass production mode of industrial stage. Celebrities, brands and the irony of them are the major subjects of his works, and there is no doubt that he was extremely successful in making money as an artist!
