“浮岛”系列展览连结数位在当代艺术创作中举足轻重的闽籍艺术家,以期通过系列个展呈现不同创作面象内所蕴藏的共性。“浮岛”意指的是看似漂浮在海平面上互不相连的孤岛,却在海平面之下的某一层深度中互相连结成一片完整的陆地,此意向结构与福建当代艺术发展的现阶段面貌相类似。而翻看历史,福建因其偏居一隅的荒蛮和面向海洋的开放,所形成的自由和包容的独特风气曾滋养了众多当代重要的艺术家,而福建本土的当代艺术环境却仍旧一片空白;年轻艺术家纷纷离乡发展,像是漂泊在海上互不相连的若干座孤岛,却又在作品的某个纵深上呈现出一种隐秘的根性。在艺术市场的冲击或助力之下,一种固化的创造生产模式渗透进社会的各领域,年轻艺术家不自觉地陷入遵照这种运作规则进行创作的桎梏。本次系列展览呈现艺术家在当代艺术多元化语境中艺术创作生态和艺术理念探索的结构与解构。借用卡尔维诺的话:“创作是一种对童年世界的回归”,此展览是去反抗艺术创作中的惰性思维与陈腐倾向。

Cooperating with several high-profile contemporary artists from Fujian province, the exhibition of “The primary motivation for creation is a return to homeland”series expects to demonstrate the common features hidden in different aspects of creation by a series of Solo Exhibition. “Floating Islands” refers to the isolated islands, though floating on the sea, actually link with each other and form a whole land at a certain depth under the sea level, which is similar to the current condition and development of contemporary art in Fujian province. In history, Fujian province, owing to the remoteness from the mainland and the vicinity of the sea, develops a free and inclusive culture that nourishes many outstanding contemporary artists. With young artists leaving for a better development, Fujian turns into an underdevelopment province in terms of the native contemporary art. The young artists leaving are like the islets on the sea, separating from each other, but demonstrate a root feature hidden in the mentality of their works. Due to the impact of the art market, a stereotype in creating and producing is formed and affecting every social aspects, with which, the young artists comply in their own works. This exhibition aims to show the artists’ construction and deconstruction of the art-work-creating atmosphere and the art-theory exploration in the context of art diversification. Just as Calvino says, ‘Creation is a return of childhood.’This exhibition tends to struggle against the inactivity in thinking as well as the staleness in creating.
