展览介绍

自2015年以来,与大华银行合作举办的Art Central一直是香港艺术周的基石。ArtCentral在建筑师设计的结构中在中央海港上演,被公认为是发现之地和博物馆级艺术作品的平台更多知名人士将与新兴艺术家的尖端作品一起展出。

Art Central, held in partnership with UOB, is a cornerstone of Hong Kong Art Week since 2015. Staged within an architect-designed structure on the Central Harborfront, Art Central is recognised as a place of discovery and a platform for museum-quality artworks from more established names to be exhibited alongside cutting-edge works by emerging artists.

 

温度(王立伟/皮质雕塑)

雕塑艺术家王立伟是近年来当代艺坛颇为亮眼的人物。他用皮质材料创作了大量的以人体为媒介,探寻生命源泉与死亡本质的作品。著名艺评家贾方舟先生曾评论:“雕塑家王立伟的“皮质雕塑”是一个非常独特的创造。这种具有独创精神的材料选择和形式表现,以一种柔软温馨、更接近生命本体的语言形态,一下子拉开了和硬质的传统雕塑的距离,使其在当代雕塑领域中独树一帜。”

王立伟是将平面绘画的线引入立体雕塑中的佼佼者,这些线是在皮块与皮块自身结构中产生的,因此具有独立的审美价值,它与中国传统艺术中的以线造型有异曲同工之妙。

由于线的出现,王立伟的雕塑不再是“雕”和“塑”,而是具有了一种以线造型的“绘画性”效果,虽然这些线不是画出来的。在他的皮质雕塑中,常常幻化出一种“席勒式”的简约凌厉的造型风格。不只是线条的出现使雕塑具有一种绘画感,而且有些局部如眉毛、眼睛、嘴巴等虽然是使用了一种线型材料,但其效果却直接呈现为一种绘画性。雕塑虽然是在三维空间中展开,但传统雕塑中的衣纹处理就常常是平面的、绘画性的。

作为雕塑的材料,皮革是一种来自动物体的有机物,皮质本身的生命感既是生命结束后的物质留存,也是生命永恒的见证。艺术家通过皮革这一材料,使生命物质以艺术的方式回转到艺术的生命体中,呈现出一种可触可感的视觉真实性。正如艺术家所说,“皮革作为雕塑的一种材料语言,更加凸显出与生命有关的主题,正是生的延续与死的终结,构成东方生死轮回的哲学观,凸显出生命的易逝与永恒”。

不是不同的材料可以创造不同的语言,而是材料本身就是一种语言。艺术家对某种材料的发现和借用,实际上就是开辟了一块属己的语言领地。但这块语言领地给艺术的进一步拓展可能提供多大的空间。

此次展览展出王立伟五件近期精品力作,展览力求在布光与展陈方面有所突破。通过独特的布展构思达成完美的观展体验。

 

 

维度(韩行/纸本装置):

关于材料物质性的抽象性表达是一直研究的课题,每一种材料有它特有的语言和属性,在熟悉和掌握其物质性的同时又要注意各种物质的相互关系,试图做到知其性尽其用,而不伤其性。

    :飘渺,虚薄,灵动但极易被擦拭。胶膜:保护画面并能完全呈现烟的色泽度,但平整的表面丧去了画面的笔触感。利用材料自身的物质性说话,胶膜由于粘性将炭黑转印到膜上,随着胶膜慢慢的脱离,原本附着在纸本的炭黑也开始向新的维度延伸,随着材料的扩展二维的厚度自然而然的转向了三维空间的探究。

Temperature(Liwei Wang and his leather sculpture)

 

The sculpture artist Liwei Wang has become a prominent figure in the contemporary art world in recent years. By using leather materials, he has created a large number of works that concentrate on the human body as a medium to explore the source of life and the nature of death. Mr. Jia Fangzhou, a famous art critic once commented, “‘Leather Sculpture’ of the young sculptor Liwei Wang is a very distinctive creation. The innovative material selection and form expression, with a language which is soft and warm, and closer to the life itself, suddenly distances itself from the hard traditional sculpture, making it unique in the field of contemporary sculpture.”

 

Liwei Wang is a leader in introducing the lines of plane painting into the three-dimensional sculpture. These lines are produced in the structure of the leather and the leather itself, which enables them to possess independent aesthetic value. And this is similar to the line shaping in traditional Chinese art.

 

Due to the appearance of the lines,Liwei Wang's sculpture is no longer "carving" and "shaping", but possess a quality of “painting” in line shaping, though these lines are not painted. His leather sculpture often shows a simple and sturdy style of “Schiller”. Not only the appearance of lines makes the sculpture have a sense of painting, but some parts such as eyebrows, eyes, mouth, etc. also present a quality of painting in spite of the merely use of an line-type material. Although the sculpture is unfolded in three-dimensional space, the treatment of clothing pattern in traditional sculpture is often flat and graphic.

 

As a material of sculpture, leather is an organism from an animal body. The life sense of the cortex itself is not only the material retention after the end of life, but also the eternal witness of life. Through the material of leather, the artist turns the living material into the life of art in an artistic way, presenting a visual reality that is sensible and touchable. As the artist said, “Leather, as a material language of sculpture, highlights the theme related to life. It is the continuation of life and the end of death. It constitutes the philosophical view of the cycle of life and death in the East, stressing both the perishability and eternality of life.”

 

It is not that different materials can create different languages, but that material itself is a kind of language. The artist's discovery and borrowing of certain material actually opens up a territory of his own language. But how much space this territory of language may provide for the further development of art?

 

This exhibition showcases five recent masterpieces by Liwei Wang. And it aims to make breakthroughs in lighting and display, and to achieve a perfect viewing experience through an unique exhibition conception.

 

 

Dimension (Xing Han/Painting based on installation):

 

The abstract expression of material nature is a subject that I have been studying all the time. Each material has its own language and attributes. When familiarizing with and mastering its material nature, we should also pay attention to the relationship between various substances and try to make the best use of its nature without harming its nature.

 

Smoke,Vague, thin, agile but easily wiped. Film: Protects the picture and completely presents the color of smoke, but the flat surface loses the brush stroke of the picture. Using the materiality the material itself, the adhesive film transfers carbon black to the film due to its viscosity. As the adhesive film slowly detaches, the carbon black originally attached to the paper begins to extend to a new dimension. As the material expands, the two-dimensional thickness naturally turns to the three-dimensional space exploration.
