Takesada Matsutani

1937- Representatives of post-contemporary art in Japan Takesada Matsutani was born in Osaka, Japan in 1937, and now lives and works in Paris, France and Nishinomiya, Japan, is a famous painter, sculptor and printmaker.   In 1963, he became the second generation member of the post-war avant-garde art in Japan-the concrete school. The group aims to "present with tools and bodies", abandon the use of the traditional "paint brush", and the "concrete second generation" is more innovative and updated. Type of material for experimentation. In 1966, Takesada Matsutani settled in Paris after studying abroad, and developed a bolder creative method. His unique technique is to cover the canvas with white glue and dry it with an electric fan to make it appear strange patterns such as swelling or wrinkles, and then paint with graphite on the white glue. Matsutani’s works break through the limitations of traditional graphic painting and are both painting and sculpture. Matsutani currently lives and works in Paris and Nishinomiya, Japan. His works are collected in the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Albertina Museum in Vienna.   From the early 1960s to the early 1970s, he became one of the core figures of the Gutai Art Association, the second-generation concrete school.
