A Global Theatre for Creative Energy The significance of Artist Cheng Yajie Exhibition held in conjunction with Asian Biennale Forum @ Global Entrepolis Since 2003, enterprises, regardless of their age and size, from all over he world converge annually into the Global Entrepolis @ Singapore to interact with each other, to seek what they need to advance their businesses. They look for capitals, markets, technologies, or business partners. The platform emphasise innovation and value creation. Last year, we saw more than 14,000 participants from more than 60 countries exploring opportunities in this global market place. This year, Singapore also hosts its first art biennale, and within the same period China has hers in Shanghai and Korea in Gwangju. Artists from over 40 countries showcase their creations in the three Asian countries. Artworks, avant garde or contemporary, shine with colour and tone of traditions and modernisms. What is significant is that the three biennales decided to further their influences across borders by meeting in Singapore, consolidating and contrasting the strengths of Asian characters vis-a-vis global textures. This is a unique dimension of globalisation of art. What is common in these two events is the vibrancy achieved through diversity, and diversity achieved through global connectivity. Artists are like entrepreneurs, who seek to differentiate themselves though creativity and innovativeness. They pursue global reach and recognition. Art is a language of expression. Business is an expression of creativity. Great artists are motivated by the strong desire to creating and communicate a globally recognised language. Without globally minded entrepreneurs, there will be no optimal combinations of resources to provide seamless solutions to customers. We should value creative talents like Cheng Yajie who see the importance of international exposures as foundation for designing global language, and set the global benchmark for better quality of art. They are the driving force for the society and economy. Offering a stage for such creative talents to reach out to global viewers are of no less importance than offering a conducive environment for businesses to access global market opportunities. After all, history has shown that great civilisations, as in renaissance art period, are the synergistic outcomes of the interaction between art activities and scientific or technological developments. Adopting a global perspective, we hope our combined effort would help pay way for enlarging platforms for creative talents to perform and creative energy to flourish. Chairman, Organising Committee of Global Entrepolis @ Singapore Chua Taik Him
